HEALTHCARE ENVIRONMENTAL SERVICES MANAGEMENT (HESM) WINTER FIELD PLACEMENT MANUAL INTRODUCTION
Hello Placement Partners,
The purpose of this manual is to provide information to students and the Placement Supervisor regarding the Healthcare Environmental Services Management placement experience. Field placement is an opportunity for students to gain knowledge and skills in a practical setting. This experience helps them prepare for employment in the Environmental services industry within the health care sector.
Students are required to successfully complete all requirements prior to be eligible for placement. Medical health clearance of Measles Mumps and Rubella (MMR) Varicella (Chicken Pox) Tetanus/Diphtheria (TD), Polio, Hepatitis B and Fully Covid Vaccinations.
In addition, a Clear Vulnerable Police Check, TB testing, Respiratory Mask Fit Certification and Influenza immunization when available are Centennial College’s minimum requirements for our Healthcare Environmental Services Management students.
Please complete the Letter to Placement Employers, Workplace Safety and Insurance Board coverage declaration and EMPLOYER/PLACEMENT SITE HEALTH AND SAFETY CHECKLIST and return to assigned placement student(s) and cc. Centennial College’s assigned placement advisor.
This manual includes sample work placement rotations, ideas for projects that can be assigned to the students and forms for final evaluations.
Winter placement is scheduled any three days per week commencing the week of Monday, March 4th, 2024 and to conclude by Friday, April 19th, 2024 (7 weeks, 21 days/shifts).
Please schedule the student accordingly. The students may rotate different shifts to job shadow the different areas in your department as per sample rotation located at the end of this document.
Communication between students, placement supervisors and college faculty are encouraged. The student will respect confidentiality and not disclose any information regarding the facility, its’ employees and/or clients unless relevant to performance indicators identified for the course.
The Healthcare Environmental Services Management students on placement will be supported during placement by a faculty advisor with a required visit within the duration of placement. We will visit a minimum one visit to get a tour of the Environmental department by the student which they will be evaluated on.
An assigned final grade will be based on evaluations received from the placement supervisor, site visit virtual tour and any other assigned course work.
