Healthcare Environmental Services Management (HESM) Fall Field Placement Manual Introduction

Thank you for supporting our HESM students and program!

The purpose of this manual is to provide information to students and the Placement Supervisor regarding the Healthcare Environmental Services Management (HESM) placement experience. Field placement is an opportunity for students to gain knowledge and skills in a practical setting. This experience helps them prepare for employment in the Environmental services industry within the health care sector.

Students are required to successfully complete all requirements prior to be eligible for placement. Medical health clearance of Measles Mumps and Rubella (MMR) Varicella (Chicken Pox) Tetanus/Diphtheria (TD), Polio, and Hepatitis B.

A Clear Vulnerable Police Check, TB testing, Respiratory Mask Fit Certification and Influenza immunization, when available, and Covid immunizations; are Centennial College’s minimum requirements for our (HESM) students.

This book contains sample field placement rotations, field placement assignments and final evaluation forms for student self assessment learning checklist and a final evaluation to be completed by the placement supervisor.

This Fall placement will be two days per week, scheduled Thursdays and Fridays starting the week of Monday, September 23rd, for a total of 14 days and times according to the shifts they are job shadowing and/or under your direction. (Excluding Engagement week from Oct. 21 to Oct. 25th, 2024)
The goal is to have students job shadow frontline staff from the different areas in your department as per sample rotation located at the end of this book.
Communication between students, placement supervisors and college faculty are encouraged. The student will respect confidentiality and not disclose any information regarding the facility, its’ employees and/or clients unless relevant to performance indicators identified for the course.

The (HESM) students on placement will be supported during placement by faculty advisors and placement students will use the self-assessment checklist to obtain the placement learning outcomes with site supervisor’s direction.

An assigned final grade will be based on the final evaluation received from the placement supervisor, site virtual tour and any other assigned course work.

Your participation in the learning process of our students is greatly appreciated.

Warm Regards,
