Below, I have compelled a collection of 4 images highlighting my achievements, including some of the most significant decisions I have made for my career or life.
University of Guelph, Bachelor of Science: Biological Science and Psychology: Brain and Cognition
At the University of Guelph, I completed a Bachelor of Science in Biological Science and Psychology: Brain and Cognition. It was during this time that I learned that I would like to help others overcome mental health difficulties. Most importantly, the hardships and difficulties I faced during this time contributed to the development of my core values and self-identity.
Trent University: Offer of Admission to the Compressed Nursing Program
Trent University: Offer of Admission marked the official beginning of my nursing journey. Upon first seeing the letter and accepting the program, I felt many emotions. I am still confused about why the universe would push me in this direction! My desire to help others and bring about change in the healthcare system has always been strong, but there are countless ways to help people. Perhaps as a nurse, I am meant to aid a particular person in their recovery or even save their life. Regardless, I am eager to align with this universal path and fulfill my spirit’s purpose.
Personal Training Certificate
This is my personal training certificate! Over the years, I have guided individuals of all ages, from children to senior citizens, in achieving physical strength and optimization. This experience allowed me to hone essential skills such as communication, teaching, and reinforcement methods. I learned to actively listen to my clients discuss various aspects of their health without judgment, creating a safe and supportive space.
In developing individualized training programs, I became adept at discerning critical information shared by clients, enabling me to focus on key areas of improvement, provide appropriate external resources, and educate effectively. My career as a personal trainer served as an educational platform for helping others while simultaneously allowing me to grow as a health and fitness enthusiast. My experiences here will also aid in integrating and utilizing the nursing process.
Holistic Nutrition Certificate
During the COVID-19 pandemic, I pursued a Certified Nutritionist Practitioner (CNP) designation. Describing this program as ‘eye-opening’ feels like an understatement. It revealed a significant lack of professional collaboration and interdisciplinary knowledge among healthcare professionals. For instance, physicians typically receive only about 20 hours of nutrition training throughout their education. How, then, can family physicians effectively promote nutritional practices among their medicated and unmedicated patients?
Food is medicine. As a future RN, I aspire to merge my nursing and nutrition knowledge to better support patients by providing tailored education, resources, and actionable practices.
[Note. Above, I have added a picture of a rose as I officially receive my certificate in February next year.]
