This is my first aid and CPR certificate, which the Trent/Fleming School of Nursing requires. I gained knowledge and abilities in this course that will help me in first aid and nursing situations. Being prepared for any emergency is a must for nurses, and this was the first training I took that taught me some basic and useful emergency skills that can either be used in nursing or in general situations.
As the dance team’s captain at my past high school, I learned the value of leading with compassion and confidence after winning the “Leading with Grace” award. As a leader, I developed the ability to uplift and encourage my team mates, assist them in realizing their potential, and create a cooperative, encouraging atmosphere. These abilities are directly applicable to nursing, as effective and compassionate leadership involves directing patients, families, and all the medical staff. My ability to retain composure, set an example, and adjust to difficulties, all while fostering a supportive and positive environment will enable me to work with others, help patients, and provide excellent treatment in a considerate and caring manner.
Being on the honour roll all through school shows a strong work ethic, dedication to excellence, and effective responsibility management qualities that are highly valued in the nursing field. These attributes would support me as a nurse in maintaining organization, setting priorities, and providing high quality care even in hectic or demanding settings. The focus and discipline needed to succeed academically will also translate into being precise in patient assessments, careful in following to medical procedures, and focused on detail. My constant pursuit of success, as seen by my achievements of honour roll excellence, will motivate me to keep getting better and give my patients the best medical attention possible.
Volunteering in a nursing home taught me the value of patience, sensitivity, and clear communication while providing me with first hand experience in caring for vulnerable people. I gained knowledge on how to help seniors with everyday tasks, offer emotional support, and make them feel at ease, many of whom were coping with loss, illness, or isolation. I gained a deeper comprehension of the psychological and physical difficulties that patients encounter as a result of this experience, which will be extremely helpful to me in my nursing profession. The need of teamwork was also highlighted by volunteering, as I worked with healthcare providers and caregivers to enhance the quality of life for the people under my care. My ability to relate to patients, provide compassionate care, and make an important difference to a healthcare organization will all be directly impacted by these skills.
Doing competitive dance for 16 years has taught me discipline, resilience, and the ability to perform under pressure, skills that are highly transferable to nursing. I had to manage time management, teamwork, and hard physical training while dancing, frequently pushing myself to reach my best. I will be able to provide high quality patient care in nursing , while demonstrating accuracy, flexibility, and a strong work ethic, thanks to my commitment to perfection and attention to detail. Additionally, when working with healthcare teams to offer the best patient results, the communication and teamwork skills learned in dance working closely with others to achieve a common goal are crucial. My dancing training has also taught me the value of taking care of oneself and keeping one’s body and mind in good condition, which is essential for managing the demands of a nursing profession.
