My Reflections
First, it was a shift in my professional identity from being a PSW to an RPN. I would focus more on my transition from RPN to a student RN.
As a practical nurse, I was mainly concerned with direct patient care in a systematic, task-oriented manner. My role was outlined, and I was very used to operating under the supervision of registered nurses and physicians. However, studying to become an RN caused me to begin thinking about nursing practice on a larger scale, developing concepts regarding critical thinking, leadership, and evidence-based care. This transition is not only academic but a big shift in how I viewed myself as a healthcare professional
I’m now exposed to new ideas like, research methodologies, and nursing theories when I started my registered nurse degree. In addition to having a solid grasp of advanced nursing procedures, becoming a registered nurse requires the capacity to apply theoretical knowledge in realistic clinical settings. In addition, this change has inspired me to do more academic research, which was not as much of a focus during my PN training. Evidence-based practice and theoretical understanding are now essential components of my academic growth.
