Final Thoughts

My transition from being a PSW to becoming an RPN and now studying for an RN has been challenging and rewarding. As a Personal support worker, I had foundational skills in ADL which is a vital part of nursing care, and then as a practical nurse, I built a foundation with basic clinical skills and a deep sense of compassion for my patients. The transition to studying for an RN qualification has broadened my knowledge, responsibility, and scope of practice. For this reflection, I will consider personal, academic, and professional changes occurring as part of this transition and will critically evaluate the impact of this journey on my nursing identity. I will also reflect on how the peer review literature has guided my understanding of this career progression.
