This open text book has been designed to support the OTA/PTA Fundamentals of Human Kinetics Course.

In this course we will address the following Learning Outcomes:

  • Identify and use appropriate terminologypertinent to kinesiology
  • Describe the anatomical position of the humanbody
  • Describe the basic structure and function of bones, muscles, joints and neurological control asthey relate to human movement/therapeutic exercise through a regional anatomical approach.
  • Describe how the body is divided intosegments/regions
  • Describe how human movement occurs in thebody planes and apply basic knowledge of levers, gait and activity/exercise/ strengthening principles to the scope of practice of an occupational therapist assistant and physiotherapist assistant.
