School, Department, and Program Policies
When we come to Centennial, we join a community of learners, staff and students who work together regardless of backgrounds, beliefs and ethnicity. There could be challenges that may arise and need to be addressed such as to stop a particular behaviour of harassment, discrimination or bullying, or for you to recognize your responsibilities and abide by the College’s policies and Student Code of Conduct. Grade Appeal

Q. I want to appeal my grade, what do I do first?
- Talk to your professor. Listen respectfully to your professor’s explanation as to why you were given your grade and attempt to informally resolve the issue with your professor.
Q. I cannot contact my professor. What do I do?
- Find out from your department office if your professor has office hours. Keep a log of your attempts to contact your professor by e-mail and voicemail. If you are still having trouble, contact the program coordinator or department chair.
Q. I met with my professor and we cannot agree on my grade. What is the next step?
- Obtain a Grade Appeal Form from Enrolment Services, your Success Advisor, or the CCSAI. You can also download it from the Student Services page at myCentennial. Read the form and follow the instructions. If you need more information, contact the CCSAI Student Advocate or the Student Experience Office.
Q. Is there a deadline for appealing my grade?
- Yes. Grade appeals must be submitted within 10 business days after the release of they grade.
Other Appeals
Students have the right to appeal an action of decision which may affect the evaluation of their performance in a course or program. Academic appeals are limited to matters affecting evaluation or decisions on admission, re-admission or Prior Learning Assessment and Recognition (PLAR). Q. My professor believes I may have cheated on an an assignment/test. What do I do?
- Don’t panic. Listen to your professor’s explanation. Read the Academic Honesty and Plagiarism Policy and Procedures.
Q. I did not know that what I did was considered cheating. Does that count?
- Ignorance is not an acceptable defense. Being a student at the College means you are subject to the College’s policies. It is your responsibility to fully understand the Academic Honesty and Plagiarism Policy. Resources on understanding academic integrity and how to avoid plagiarism and cheating can be found through the the Library and Learning Centres at library.centennialcollege.ca/help-services/research-help/academic-integrity, including access to citation guides, an online module on academic integrity, and access to an online How to Cite module.
Q. I was in a group project and one of my group members plagiarized their part. All of us were given a zero on the assignment. Why?
- All of you are responsible for the academic integrity of your group project; it is not something you can just assign to any one person. Ensure you build in enough time for peer review and quality control.
Violence Prevention and Harassment and Discrimination Prevention

Q. Some students use derogatory homophobic, transphobic or sexist language. What can I do?
- You have a right to work and study in an environment free of harassment and discrimination. If you are comfortable speaking to them, ask them to stop. You can also contact the Student Experience Office.
Q. An individual (College employee or student) made a comment which I find racist. What do I do?
- If you feel comfortable, address your concern directly with the individual. You could also contact the Student Experience Office.
Q. I am being physically threatened. What do I do?
- Go to Security at your campus and make a report immediately. You have a right to work and study in an environment free of violence.
Sexual Violence Prevention
The College has developed resources and learning opportunities to increase awareness and prevention of sexual violence. Our efforts include the co-development of online training for employees on Centennial’s Sexual Assault and Sexual Violence Policy, engaging students in dialogue about sexual assault prevention during Orientation and Service Fairs, creating print resources and campaigns, involving students in raising awareness through our student contests and delivering Bringing in the Bystander training.

Q. How do I know what to do if I am assaulted or if I witness or know of an assault?
- The College’s Sexual Violence Procedures, found at widencdn.net/assu7i/BG101-03-Sexual-Violence-Procedures, outline the steps and process to take if you are the survivor or witness of a sexual violence. Student Code of Conduct

Q. What is the Student Code of Conduct?
- The Student Code of Conduct lists your rights and responsibilities as a Centennial College student and is intended to ensure a learning environment based on mutual respect.
Q. Another student has been making nasty comments about me on her Facebook wall. Can the college do something about it?
- Yes, under our Student Code of Conduct, the College can take action if inappropriate statements are made in online from a Centennial College student about another Centennial College student or employee.
