Labs and Equipment
FOR THIS SEMESTER, FSWR 105, Equipment & Food Lab course WILL BE HELD WITHIN THE CLASSROOM SETTING in Food Lab #9 at Progress campus.
Standard uniform is required for FSWR 105 Kitchen Equipment and Food Preparation and for Field Placement. You can check uniform supply companies and/or department stores to purchase the items as long as they meet the standards. Please make sure that you are equipped for your second scheduled lab. BLACK SCRUBS TOP AND PANTS and NON-SLIP SHOES ARE REQUIRED FOR FOOD LAB DEMONSTRATIONS, EVALUATIONS AND FIELD PLACEMENT.
Any student missing the first two weeks of “Orientation” labs may not be permitted to start the course due to safety reasons. During the first two labs you will be taught how to use the knives and how to operate food service equipment in a safe manner.
- Food Service Worker student ID badge. You must have valid photo identification and proof of registration (payment receipt or timetable) with you to obtain Centennial College Photo ID. Check the college website for specific information on how to obtain your student ID badge
- BLACK Scrubs, always freshly cleaned and changed into once you arrive at YOUR FIELD PLACEMENT LOCATION AND REQUIRED FOR EVALUATIONS and FSWR 105 Equipment and Food Lab classes.
- Food Temperature Thermometer that registers in both Celsius and Fahrenheit for both hot and cold item
- Comfortable, flat, closed-toe and heel shoes with non-skid soles, no canvas or mesh (no runners)
- Knife set: to include a French/Chef’s knife, paring knife and vegetable peeler. Please do not purchase serrated-edged knives. CAN BE PURCHASED at grocery or value stores or at campus Bookstores
- No jewelry, rings, or nail polish
- Hairnet is available at drug stores or value stores. All hair must be covered and beard nets if applicable
- Adhere to a scent-free environment; no cologne, perfume, no strong oders
There may be limited access to Centennial’s computers and specialty labs. For your health and safety, follow any posted protocols (e.g., physical distancing, cleaning, etc.).
Software
Students have access to industry-leading software packages and bundles that can be found in rooms, labs, and podiums across our campuses. Computers at each campus will be loaded with the applications for use in your courses. To access these features, you must log in to the network using your student number.
