Mission Services of Hamilton

Willow’s Place

Willow’s Place is a non-profit program supported by Mission Services of Hamilton. It is located at 196 Wentworth Street north, directly beside Cathy Weaver Elementary School. This building also houses the Good Food Centre and Emma’s Place.

Willow’s Place was launched in 2014 due to a grant provided by the Ontario Trillium Foundation and donations from the community. Willow’s Place is a drop-in centre overseen by Mission Services of Hamilton that provides a safe space and access to drop-in services for all those who identify as women, non-binary, or trans. These services include showers, laundry, meals, harm reduction supplies, and additional programming such as games and arts and crafts (Willow’s Place, n.d.).

Emma’s Place

Emma’s Place is a newer drop-in program supported by Willow’s Place. The program is a low-barrier shelter providing 15 beds for women, trans, and non-binary people aged 18 and older. The beds are available on a first-come, first-served basis through community or self-referral. The shelter offers basic supplies, emotional support, community service referrals, and assistance with connecting to housing resources to meet the needs of the residents. The City of Hamilton has committed to two years of funding for the program and is considering the possibility of permanent funding (Emma’s Place, n.d.).
