8 Timed Assessment Accommodations

A clock, pencil, and multichoice scantron sheet

Timed assessment accommodations are those that are provided to support a student during the writing of exams, test, or quizzes that have a specific timed element (See Extra Time on Timed Assessments on the QSAS webpage). Timed assessment accommodations do not modify the format or content of an assessment; rather, they adjust the conditions under which a test or exam is taken. For example, assessment accommodations might involve incorporating assistive technology, extending the duration of an exam, or providing a more appropriate environment to take an exam.

You are encouraged to communicate with students and work with them to support the implementation of their accommodations. Although you cannot ask a student about their specific disability diagnosis that has led to the provision of a particular accommodation, you can work with the student to understand whether a certain action would support the removal of their academic barriers and the implementation of their accommodation (according to the Queen’s Senate Academic Accommodations for Students with Disabilities Policy).
