LMS Resources

Learning Management Systems (LMS) are often used by postsecondary institutions for the delivery of educational courses and training programs. They act as a platform for learning delivery but support a wide range of uses, including communication with your instructor/professor and peers, a place to submit your assignments, and a way of tracking your progress in the course.

Most LMS will have the same or similar functions, so even if you get to know one system, figuring out another is not insurmountable. There will be a few key areas you will want to locate:

  • Course content – often called content or modules
  • Messages – often called email, messages, or announcements
  • Grades – often called marks or grades

There will be other features available in the LMS, but oftentimes faculty will just use the basics. The biggest task is for you to determine how your professor has set up their course LMS page and ensure you use it appropriately.

  • Seneca Polytechnic utilizes an LMS called Learn@Seneca.

It is important to log in to Learn@Seneca every day and check in on your courses multiple times per week. This includes looking at announcements, emails, discussion posts, assignment feedback, upcoming deadlines, and any other important elements of the course. If you have any questions, you need to get in touch with your professor.

Activity

Find your school’s LMS support page. Take a look at some of the documents/videos that pertain to you to get acquainted with the system before you get started with your studies.

Please see Seneca’s Learn@Seneca Tutorial website for more details.
