Chapter 4: Learning Strategies
30 Library
Every institution has a library for students to use that includes access to books, magazines, journals, electronic resources, reference library staff, study spaces, and often workshops on how to use their resources. The Cambrian Library is one of the most popular places on campus!
Search for your program’s assigned library staff member and ask them if they can suggest resources to use for research, papers, assignments, etc. Library staff are often as knowledgeable about program resources as the professors are (sometimes even more).
Another incredible resource offered by the library is their study rooms. These are amazing for hosting group study sessions or meetings for group projects. However, you need to book these as far in advance as possible because, during midterm and exam season, they fill up like rapid fire. You can use the library’s website to book study rooms several weeks in advance based on your midterm/test/project due dates. You can always cancel them if you decide you don’t need the space anymore.
The library also offers printers in case you’re asked to hand in a hard-copy assignment or want to print your study notes. Moreover, you can also get access to last-minute project materials such as staplers, hole punchers, scissors, etc.
Finally, the library often hosts stress-reducing activities/items during exam season that are great to participate in and take advantage of! These include things like free snacks or coffee, exam prep kits, self-care packages, and more.
