Course Specific Requirements:
Attendance in all lab classes is mandatory. If you must miss your lab experience, please contact the teacher directly prior to the start of the lab class. In order to pass this course, the student must successfully complete a minimum of 85% of the clinical (lab) competencies. The laboratory competencies define the learning expectations of the lab component of the course. If incomplete, an “I” will be assigned for the course until competencies are demonstrated successfully and then a “C” grade will be granted. Completing lab competencies of unattended lab classes may be obtained during times when supplemental exams are performed.
Program or School Policies
Evaluation and Grading 1: A “C” grade is required for satisfactory completion of all courses within the Esthetician program.
All courses that have a lab component will have dual means of evaluation. In order to pass these courses, the student must achieve a minimum of a ‘C’ grade (60%) in both the theory and clinical components of the course AND successfully complete a minimum of 85% of the clinical competencies.
Sequence: The sequence of experience in the Esthetician Program requires that all courses be completed satisfactorily before proceeding to other courses. The following indicates these requirements: a) All ESTH courses of a semester must be successfully completed prior to beginning the next semester. b) Promotion from course to course is governed by the prerequisites stated for the individual courses. c) All courses in the Esthetician Program must be satisfactorily completed for eligibility for graduation from Centennial College. d) All College Communication & General Education courses must be completed by the end of Semester 4 successfully with a ‘D’ grade.
Assignments: An assignment is to be submitted before, or on the specified date and time as determined by the course instructor. If a student cannot submit an assignment on the due date for any reason, they must notify the appropriate professor in advance and request an extension giving reasons for the delay. If an extension is not granted, the student is expected to have the assignment completed by the specified date. In exceptional circumstances, * if a student cannot submit an assignment on the date, they must notify the appropriate professor at least 24 hours in advance or as soon as possible and request an extension giving reasons for the delay. When an extension is granted, the student will receive full consideration for the assignment. Assignments with extensions are due at a specific date and time as arranged with the professor. Penalties will be applied to extended assignments. In certain instances, with late, makeup or remedial work, assignments may be marked as pass/fail (i.e. minimum/ maximum 60%) only. * Written documentation is required to support claims of exceptional circumstances, i.e. illness or death of a family member. Arrangements for makeup tests are as follows: • Students are responsible to report absences directly to the professor prior to class in which the test is given. • Students will write all makeup tests at a mutually agreed upon date. • Students will reconfirm that they are planning to write the test with the professor prior to that week to ensure a make-up test is prepared.
ATTENDANCE POLICY: Specific programs & courses have specific attendance requirements however it is strongly recommended that students attend all classes. Although general attendance in ‘theory’ classes is not compulsory, attendance is compulsory for classes designated as “Laboratory Sessions, Group Presentations” and/or Seminars and guest speakers” in order to provide for application and practice of various knowledge & skills in theory courses. Attendance constitutes arriving at class on time.
Missed Tests: Attendance is compulsory for all scheduled tests and examinations. A student missing an evaluative method must contact the professor prior to the scheduled test/exam/assignment and clarify the reason for absence*. Failure to notify your teacher of your absence in advance will result in a grade of zero for that evaluative method. *Written documentation is required to support claims of extenuating circumstances, i.e. illness or death of a family member. At the teacher’s discretion, students arriving late for a test or exam, may not be admitted and, if admitted, may not be allowed additional time. However, students arriving after other students have exited the examination hall will not be allowed to take the test or exam. Arrangements for makeup tests are as follows: • Students are responsible to report absences to the professor prior to class in which the test is given • Students will write all makeup tests at the end of the semester during the exam week • Students will reconfirm that they are planning to write the test with the professor prior to exam week to ensure a make-up test is prepared.
Reporting an illness: Students must notify their respective individual teacher(s) in cases of illness from classes, laboratories, tests, examinations, and experiences in the practical courses. Written documentation (doctor’s note) is required to support claims. In cases of absence from clinical practice or placement due to illness, students must consult with respective course instructor on how to notify the specific placement according to placement policies/ appropriate lines of communication. A medical certificate may be required before returning to practicum. NOTE: All absences must be reported to the individual instructors.
