Belief Statement
Emma Gordon
I am a firm believer that too many people only consider what is best for themselves rather than considering other people and their needs. I believe that society must take a step back and consider what is best for not only themselves but also others in order for society to function at its best. An example that I see on almost a daily basis has to do with the homeless population in Peterborough. I find that many people see the homeless population as people who are ‘bad’, who are addicts or negatively affect society; this is a narrative that I hope to help change. People are people. They mess up to get put in unfortunate situations but this does not mean that they are not still human. My partner and I make it a goal to make a hot meal once a week and deliver it to people in need in hopes that it inspires others and shows the community that we are all just people trying our to navigate this confusing and often hard life. I hope to contribute to this idea in my daily and professional practice by helping others in a non-judgemental and compassionate manner since you never know what someone else is going through, and all we can do is provide others with the best of what we can do to support them.
