Core Beliefs and Values
Through this chapter I will dive further into why these values are important to me and why they are essential for my nursing practice.
Belief Statement
As a nursing student I believe that incorporating the values of kindness, respect, honesty, and commitment into my practice, will make me the best nurse I can be. It will also positively influence my patients’ care. During my educational journey of a nursing I want to explore these characteristics throughout my career to provide patients with care tailored to their needs.
A key value that I take into consideration is kindness. I believe that being kind is a simple activity anyone can do if they try. I view myself as a kind person. I help others when needed and am always willing to lend a hand. This is a value I look for in people who are a part of my life. Being kind to patients is a necessary component of nursing care. Kindness is extremely valued in the nursing profession. This is because it can directly impact the well-being and experience of patients. Providing the patient and staff with kindness helps foster a positive workplace, and can even improve health outcomes of the patients in my care.
Another key value that I like to take into consideration is respect. I believe that showing respect toward someone will make all the difference. Providing the patient with respect can help enhance patient care. By showing the patient respect they will feel more satisfied with the care that they are receiving as well as the person who was giving them their care. I believe that respect isn’t just a professional responsibility in nursing; it is a foundation for ethical care that can maintain patients’ rights and creates a positive healthcare environment for patients as well as staff members.
Another key value that I will be speaking about is honesty. As a nurse in healthcare making honesty a priority is an essential component of care. The nurse’s job is to be honest to the patient. Being honest helps build trust between nurses and their patients. This is a crucial foundation of effective care. When patients trust that their nurse is honest, they will feel more secure and respected. When the patient feels secure and respected it makes it easier to share personal information or concerns that are vital to their health and treatment plan. Therefore, the patient will be receiving better and more accurate care if they know that I am honest.
The final key value that I will be speaking about is commitment. I value commitment because it shows passion, determination, and resilience. As a nursing student, commitment to wanting to learn everything I can about nursing is important. Nursing is a difficult profession and it’s a degree that needs a lot of time and dedication put into it. As a nurse, commitment is highly valued because it directly impacts the quality of care provided to patients. Nurses have to commit to the overall function of the healthcare team, and the professional standards of the nursing field.
