Values
My values are wisdom, compassion, perseverance and integrity
Wisdom: I value wisdom because it guides my way of thinking and directs my actions. I believe that wisdom will be necessary for my nursing practice. It will let me know what to do and the right time to do it. It will assist me as I assess my knowledge, skill and judgment to ensure I am competent enough to carry out my tasks. Wisdom is necessary for critical thinking, analysis and guided actions and I look forward to utilizing sound wisdom as I proceed into clinical practice next semester.
Compassion: I want to be a nurse whose practice is marked by compassion. I believe that this will positively impact every patient that I care for. The compassion I show can make a patient more relaxed and willing to comply with care. I aim to cultivate and express attributes of compassion like kindness, empathy and genuine concern in my nursing practice.
Perseverance: I want to be a nurse who does not easily give up. I value perseverance because it will enable me to pull through when I feel overwhelmed during my nursing practice. I desire to cultivate perseverance by staying optimistic when I handle tasks of varied difficulties, knowing that if I keep going, I can complete them.
Integrity: This value involves having high moral standards. High moral standards will benefit my nursing practice by ensuring I care for my patients using best practices. I want to be a nurse whose patients can be assured of getting optimal culturally safe care. All nurses aim to achieve cultural safety and cultural competency in care, and integrity can assure my patients that they will get the best possible care from me.
