Program Learning Resources and Facilities
Early Learning Centers (Lab schools)
We are fortunate to have Early Learning Center Lab Schools at our Progress Campus and in the East York community. East York and Progress offer spaces to infants, toddlers and preschoolers. These Early Learning Centers are centres of excellence with meaningful program statements and state-of-the-art design and equipment.
Early Learning Centers offer services to families and children of students, faculty and staff of the college and also to families in the local communities in which they are situated. Having the centres is a great asset for the ECE program. We are able to use the expertise of the staff working directly with the children and offer placements to our students. The facilities are used for demonstration purposes and offer opportunities to observe the children as part of the ECE program. These Early Learning Centers support the teaching and learning that occurs in class. (Appointments must be booked in advance when visiting the centres.)
If you wish to find out about spaces for your child in one of the centres, you can call one of the centre managers.
Minimum Technology Requirements
In this program, you will need a working computer with a working keyboard, mouse, headphones, and a strong internet connection. It is recommended that you use either Chrome or FireFox when using eCentennial and the other EdTech tools found in these courses. Please make sure to update your preferred browser (Chrome or FireFox) and your Flash Player browser plugin to the newest version for the best possible experience in the online environment.
In addition to the technology requirements associated with this program, you should also possess a set of computer skills that include: installing software, security, and virus protection on your computer, managing files/folders on your computer, using Office applications and accessing and using the internet using a web browser. If you need to refresh your skills in any of these areas, refer to the College Libraries Ontario “The Learning Portal.”
Software
Students have access to industry-leading software packages and bundles that can be found in rooms, labs, and podiums across our campuses. Computers at each campus will be loaded with the applications for use in your courses. To access these features, you must log in to the network using your student number. You can see a comprehensive list of software and software packages installed by room and by campus here.

Digital Resources
The library offers a wide range of digital resources for our ECE students to access throughout their two years of study at Centennial College. Take a closer look at the library’s program guide for the Early Childhood Education Program https://libraryguides.centennialcollege.ca/ece.
Students have access to the growing online library of high-quality early childhood video training clips. These resources allow students to see how children interact, be better supporters of children’s learning, and prepare environments that engage in rich problem-solving opportunities.
Library Collections
Centennial College’s libraries offer a multitude of services for you. These range from providing e-resources (journals, texts, media), course reserves, technology loans, tutoring, to tips for citing sources and time management. To access these resources, go to the Library Website.
Instructors may make course readings available online through the eReserves service in eCentennial or as physical items that can be borrowed from a campus library on short-term loan. If your instructor is using eReserves, you will see a module in the course content on eCentennial. The list may include links to library resources like databases, articles, and eBooks; book chapters; web links; and open educational resources. Check your course outline or contact your instructor for information about where your assigned course readings are located.
