SMART goals

SMART goals are achievable, time-bound and practical goals that a person can set for themselves in order to ensure progress is ongoing and continuous. This part of portfolio entails my short term and long term goals for the upcoming winter semester commencing in January 2025.

#Short term goal – My short-term goal for the winter semester is to establish the habit of completing the required reading on the same day it is assigned, ensuring I stay ahead with my coursework. I plan to set aside a specific time each day, such as after classes or in the evening, to focus on my coursework. I’ll prioritize tasks by listing assignments in order of urgency and tackle the readings first. To stay focused, I’ll find a quiet study space, silence my notifications, and break longer readings into smaller sections using the Pomodoro Technique—working in 25-minute intervals with short breaks. I’ll track my progress in a planner, checking off each reading as I complete it, which will keep me motivated. Finally, I’ll quickly review the material before class the next day to ensure I retain what I’ve read. In addition, I will begin reflecting on and revising the material after each lecture to ensure I fully understand the content discussed. I aim to successfully incorporate these habits into my routine by January 27th, 2025.#Long term goal – Since the winter semester will be my first clinical placement, I will focus on performing basic clinical tasks such as taking vital signs, completing documentation, and providing patient care. To achieve this, I will focus on quickly adapting to the clinical environment by familiarizing myself with protocols, equipment, and patient interactions. I will seek weekly feedback from my clinical instructors to track my progress and ensure I am meeting expectations. My progress will be assessed through these feedback sessions and self-reflection, with success measured by my ability to execute these tasks confidently. This goal is both achievable and relevant, as it aligns with my aspiration to build a solid foundation in nursing practice, preparing me for more advanced clinical responsibilities. By dedicating time to learning and balancing academics, clinical practice, and self-care, I will ensure a successful and fulfilling winter semester. My goal is to create a balance between academics, clinical practice, and self-care, ensuring a successful and fulfilling winter semester. I hope to achieve this goal by the end of April 2025.
