Land Acknowledgement

Living and teaching in the London area, I acknowledge and honour the Anishinaabe, Huadenoshaunnee, and Lanape people of Southwestern Ontario as the traditional owners and custodians of the land and waterways on which Fanshawe College is located. Originating from Germany and teaching German, I also recognize Germany’s settler colonialism and genocide committed against the Herero and the Nama in South West Africa. I accept responsibility as an educator to contribute toward critically examining and dismantling ongoing injustices and colonial structures, especially as they take shape through language and cultural expression.
Fanshawe College celebrates the continuous living cultures of the original inhabitants of Canada and acknowledges the important contributions Indigenous people have made and continue to make in Canadian society. The College respects and acknowledges our Indigenous students, staff, Elders, and Indigenous visitors who come from many nations.
