Module 7 Overview

Module 7 Overview: Normal Anatomy Basics

Module 7 will consist of Chapters 28 – 29.

The dental radiographer must be able to recognize normal anatomy landmarks viewed on intraoral and extraoral images of the maxillary and mandibular arches. This knowledge will assist the dental radiographer to accurately mount and interpret the images. The radiographer must apply knowledge obtained from their Orofacial Anatomy course, as well as these chapters. Without a working knowledge of normal anatomy, the dental radiographer may incorrectly mount dental images or mistake normal anatomic structures for pathologic conditions.

Chapter 28: Panoramic Imaging

The purpose Chapter 28:

  • To review the normal anatomy of the maxilla and mandible as viewed on the skull
  • To describe the normal anatomic landmarks seen on intraoral radiographs
  • The dental radiographer must be able to recognize the normal anatomic landmarks on intraoral radiographs in order to mount and interpret intraoral films accurately.

Chapter 29: Extraoral Imaging

The purpose of Chapter 29:

  • To review the normal anatomy of the maxilla and mandible as viewed on a panoramic image
  • To examine air space images and soft tissue images
