Conduct and Rights
Professional Code of Conduct
Students in the Child and Youth Care program begin demonstrating their professionalism on their first day of classes. Students are expected to follow the professional code of conduct as laid out by the college at all times. This includes while participating in field placement. Students will be expected to follow all policies and procedures at their respective field placement. Partnering agencies are expecting students to be on time, attend placement on expected days, communicate with agency supervisor and faculty field supervisor on days away, and conduct themselves as if they are a member of the agency team. Field placement is a privilege and students need to treat this opportunity as if it were a job. Once students are matched with an agency, they are invited to an interview. Students are provided with mock interviews to help support them in being ready for their field placement interviews. Students will begin to create their professional network in the CYC field while at placement and many students find that they also begin their careers due to their performance at field placement. Students are not only an ambassador for Centennial College, they are an ambassador for our Child and Youth Care program. We have high expectations for our students while at placement and students are expected to demonstrate this professionalism while participating and attending classes.
Students are encouraged to review their Essential Employability Skills (EES) on their course outlines to know what skills they are practicing in class to have them ready for field placement.
