What works for me – student submission

A way that I do self-care is through hobbies I enjoy; I think it is important to take time out of the day to do something I enjoy in a day. In addition, putting aside time in a day for self-care, no matter the day can help to build a routine and can be really needed on those days when everything seems hard. Whether it be my hobby, something calming like a bath, or watching a show or one of my comfort shows, I have found this to be really helpful in getting me back on track.

I also recommend if you don’t know yet what works for you, trying new techniques to see how they work, through trial and error, is a really important part of a self care and mental health journey.

Something that has really helped me as well is reading in general; I find that reading is really calming for me because no matter the feelings or need for comfort, there is a book out there that can help me ease my mind. Concerning self-help books, however, some feel helpless, like they don’t help in finding what works or give any insight on specific issues; there are some that I find comforting. A book that kind of helped me to better understand myself was called “The Mountain is You: Transforming Self-Sabotage into Self-mastery. By Brianna Wiest.”

Journaling has also helped me with clearing my mind and recharging 🙂
