1 Self-Care Tips
A few things to remember about self-care:
- Self-care doesn’t have to cost money, nor does it need to take up a lot of your time; but it does require self-reflection and mindfulness
- Ask yourself what activity brings you joy, grounds you, and makes you feel calm
- What is something you may have been neglecting as a self-care priority? This could be cooking yourself a favourite meal, spending time with loved ones, taking a long bath, getting a pedicure, taking a nap, or even having a movie night
- Keep in mind that self-care does not have to take up too much of your day, but it is important to see where you can incorporate it, if not once a day, but a few times a week. This can look like an extra 5 minutes in the shower to relax and embrace the sensation of the calm warm water on your skin. Perhaps it is a brief phone call to a loved one. Or maybe treating yourself to an ice cream cone/fancy Starbucks drink?
- When performing your self-care activity, try to practice mindfulness and self-reflection before and after. Before the task, ask yourself why you are doing this, what is its purpose? After you finish the task, ask yourself how you are feeling as a result of it, and practice gratitude towards yourself
