What works for me – student submission

A self-care strategy that I enjoy using is engaging with mindfulness colouring books or colouring apps. The act of colouring serves as a meditative and calming activity, providing an opportunity to centre your attention on the present moment. This practice can effectively alleviate stress while fostering a creative mindset. Additionally, there are specific colouring books designed for stress relief and relaxation that incorporate positive affirmations or inspirational quotes, adding an extra layer of therapeutic benefit to the experience.

A fun fact about mindfulness colouring is that it has been found to activate different parts of the brain associated with focus and creativity. Research suggests that the act of colouring can stimulate the brain’s reward centre, leading to a sense of accomplishment and positive feelings.
