Program Learning Resources and Facilities

Attendance

Participants are expected to attend all labs. If for some reason this is not possible, then it is the responsibility of the student to contact the teacher, leaving a message on the voice mail or sending an email before the scheduled lab. Any student missing more than 20% of their labs may not be eligible for a passing grade. A positive and professional attitude is also expected from all students at all times.

Attire and Equipment

Students must be prepared to purchase the required uniform within the first two weeks of classes (purchase of tool kit also required by this time).

Cell Phone Policy During Labs

The use of cell phones during lab hours is generally not permitted. If a student requires the use of a phone, they are asked to leave the lab or lecture room to do so, leaving their workspace in a safe and orderly manner. It is the student’s responsibility during that time to safeguard any items left in or on the stove. Please have cell phones on vibrate and preferably use only during official breaks. For safety purposes students are encouraged to leave cell phones and other electronic devices secured in locked lockers in the change room.

Alcohol Service/Sampling

Where service, sampling or use of alcohol is included as part of the curriculum, the following polices must be adhered to.

  1. Where students are required to serve alcohol in a dining atmosphere, consumption of alcohol by the students is strictly prohibited.
  2. Students are allowed to sample alcohol when it is directly related to the learning outcomes and ONLY under the direct supervision of an instructor.
  3. Where students are using alcohol in culinary cooking, as a part of the learning outcomes, consuming the alcohol directly is strictly prohibited.

Failure to adhere to the College’s policy on alcohol will result in penalties, up to and including expulsion.
