FALL WEEK 11: BRAINSTORMING TEMPLATE
Instructions
After reviewing the literature together, your group should have a pretty good idea about the problem the community partner is experiencing and what solution(s) and/or recommendation(s) have been put forth by researchers. This week, you will begin to think about the idea that your group wants to propose. We encourage you to think big and be creative in your ideas, but also consider limitations. Although we will not actually be putting our ideas into practice, we want to give our community partners something that is possible and not fantastical.
This week, one group member should set up a Google Slides document and share the link with the rest of the team. Google Slides is accessible through your Trent account and instructions on how to set it up can be found here: Google Slides training and help – Google Workspace Learning Center.
Once you have a shared Google Slides document, and everyone is ready, assign each person their own colour. This will be useful in identifying whose ideas are whose. You may want to add a prompt on one or more slides, for students to respond to. For instance, slides may have titles such as, “What good recommendations did researchers identify?” “What limitations are there in addressing this problem?” and “If you had a magic wand, how would you fix this?” Feel free to add additional slides and prompts to suit your group’s brainstorming activity.
Take approximately 30 minutes to quietly fill in as much information on these slides as you can. Be sure to make new posts, and also read and respond to one another’s. After all members have exhausted everything they want to add, take turns going around and discussing each main point. The people who contributed (i.e. responded) can also discuss why they added the comment they did.
The brainstorming is the key activity this week, but the information will be used for the idea proposal next week. It is a good idea to have someone take notes during the conversation. If your group finishes early, you may continue on and begin working on the idea assessment template for next week.
