6 Co-operative Education Evaluation & Grading

Co-operative Education work terms are an integral part of the program of study and as such, receive a credit designation on a student’s transcript.

Grading Types

R Requirements met, credit awarded

  • Successful completion of an approved Co-op work term.
  • Submission of a co-op work term report at the end of each four-month co-op term.
FL Unsuccessful, no credit awarded

  • Failure to start a co-op job once accepted.
  • Declining a previously accepted job offer.
  • Quitting without prior consultation and approval of a Co-op Specialist.
  • Terminated for just cause, by the employer.
  • Leaving a work term before the agreed upon employment end date and/or contract end date.
  • Retroactive FL grade may be issued for leaving before the end of an agreed upon 8 or 12-month Co-op term.
  • Unsatisfactory work performance and/or employer evaluation.
  • Failure to submit co-op work term report or all of the required documents by the deadline date.
  • Repeat safety violations.

 

NG No Grade

  • Did not obtain a co-op work term.
  • Did not participate or seek employment for the co-op work term.

Grading Timelines

Co-op grades will appear on a student’s MAP (My Academic Progress) in the semester after their work term.

Graduation Requirements for a Co-operative Education Designation

Each co-op program requires a specific number of co-op credits for graduation with a co-op diploma. Co-op programs normally have more work term opportunities than the number of credits required.

Credit requirements are:

  • Two-year academic programs: 1 co-op credit (2 Co-op Opportunities)
  • Two-year academic programs: 2 co-op credits (3 or 4 Co-op Opportunities)
  • Three-year academic programs: 2 co-op credits (3 or 4 Co-op Opportunities)
