2 Co-op Eligibility and Structure
Eligibility to Participate in Co-operative Education
For a Mohawk College student to be eligible to participate in co-operative education they must:
- Be registered as a full-time student in a Mohawk College co-operative education program which includes enrolling in full-time courses before and following a co-op work term. Students must begin and end their co-op program on academic terms.
- Not have more than 2 failed/missed courses before a work term. Students with more than 2 failed/missed courses will not be eligible to seek a co-op position for that work term. Students should contact their Program Coordinator or Student Success Advisor to discuss picking up missed courses to be eligible to participate in the next co-op term available for their program.
- Some co-op programs have specific academic eligibility requirements. These will be shared by your Co-op Specialist.
- International students are responsible for obtaining and maintaining a valid co-op work permit to be eligible to participate in co-op. International students must provide proof of a valid co-op work permit to be granted access to the Co-op portal on Career Ready.
- Students working with Accessible Learning Services on a reduced course load should consult with their Co-op Specialist and Program Coordinator before participating in Co-op.
Note: Failure to maintain these eligibility criteria will result in the restriction of work terms or removal from optional co-op programs.
Co-op Work Sequence
Every co-op program has a set co-op rotation. This rotation is not flexible and students are required to follow the co-op work sequence as indicated in their program of study.
If a student does not participate in a co-op work term, they cannot move the work term to an alternate semester. Students who become out of sync with their program or fast track may miss out on a co-op work term(s).
Co-op Prep Class
Before a student’s first co-op work term, all co-op students will be registered in a mandatory Co-op Prep class. Co-op students are expected to attend, participate, and hand in the required assignments for this class. Students who do not hand in the required co-op assignments (resume, health & safety, etc.) may be blocked from applying to co-op positions.
Accessible Learning Services (ALS)
If students are registered with ALS, Co-op Specialists will receive any academic accommodations through the Accommodate portal to support students within the Co-op Prep course.
If students require an accommodation or need to update an existing accommodation, contact als@mohawkcollege.ca to book an appointment.
Co-operative Education Fees
Co-op fees are compulsory for students registered in a co-op program. These fees are determined annually by Mohawk College and are charged during academic semesters. Information on fees for your program are located on Mohawk’s Tuition and Fees webpage.
Please note that the co-op fee is not a “placement fee”; it does not guarantee co-op employment. It is a fee for the services provided before, during, and after each co-op work experience.
Fee inquiries should be directed to The Registrar.
