Integrating AI into education requires a strong focus on ethical standards to ensure responsible and beneficial use in teaching and learning. Microsoft’s Six Responsible AI Principles—fairness, reliability and safety, privacy and security, inclusiveness, transparency, and accountability—provide a framework for a safe and transparent educational environment. These are principles we can model and expect in our own classrooms to enhance learning experiences while safeguarding against potential harms and biases.

At the college, the Generative AI Toolkit, the Faculty Learning Hub, and the Academic Integrity office can support you with upholding and communicating about these AI ethics principles.

This chapter provides insights into the ethics, supports, and basic prompting skills for the wise and responsible use of AI.
