56 Chapter: Amelia Hagiepetros 2.0 – Introduction to Anaconda and Python: Installation and setup

Author(s): Damien Rolon-M ́erette, Matt Ross, Thadd ́e Rolon-M ́erette, & Kinsey Church.

How Can Accessible Setup Guides Support Beginners in Learning Python?

The resource is an introduction into setting up Python and Anaconda on your computer to make learning Python easier. I think that Python is a useful tool for teachers to have that can extend into other tools like Scratch and other languages, whereas Scratch might be limited especially when dealing with more advanced coding students. However, Python learning is often fraught with the issue of believing that people learning python are already somewhat techy, which can prevent people from joining the community. This resource is a good walk through of the installation of Python and how to use it through a shell called Anaconda. People can search out how to use Python but may not find the tools for setting it up.

How is it used in a classroom setting?

This resource is more for teachers as a way for them to walk through a new resource before they talk with their students. Because this is a walk-through the set-up is self-explained, and teachers can follow this on their own time. From here they can help their students set it up themselves.
