17 Resource faculty
Faculty need training in accessible pedagogies and incentives to adopt accessible teaching practices. The lack of institutional support for faculty to build capacity for accessible course delivery, as well as the absence of rewards for faculty engaging in access-oriented teaching, creates a significant resource gap.
“There has to be some kind of incentive for faculty to change and for their teaching practices to be acknowledged and rewarded that goes above and beyond the standard, like student evaluation of teaching.” – (Faculty A)
Faculty may be more motivated and able to deliver access-centered pedagogies if they are provided institutional resources to do so. Accessible teaching, then, must also be something that is accessible and achievable for instructors, with institutional resources and funding dedicated to uplifting new access leaders.
“The impact on faculty is that they have to produce more accessible classrooms, and that might involve more labor that’s unpaid, right? Or more labor that doesn’t come with the professional development that they need support with.” – Mina* (Faculty)
