Experiential Learning Reporting Definition
The College’s Strategic Mandate Agreement (SMA3) with the Ministry of Colleges and Universities includes targets for the number and proportion of graduates in programs who participated in at least one course with required experiential learning component(s). To be included in the reporting and calculation of the SMA3 Experiential Learning metric the EL activity must be
- a formal component of the curriculum for a courses/courses in programs (Co-curricular or extra-curricular activities cannot be reported as EL.).
- tracked at the individual level (i.e., an institution must be able to determine if a graduate participated in EL);
- available to all students enrolled in the program (For example, students may elect not to participate in the EL activity and choose another optional activity required for completion of a course/program, but all students can access this EL activity. If a structured work experience was available only to a subset of students in the program, the activity cannot be reported as EL, even for students that did participate); and
- structured and meaningful (i.e., verified or evaluated and count towards course credit or credential completion).
