Introduction
Welcome to the Centennial College Open Textbook Template User Guide!
This User Guide is meant to be used in tandem with the Centennial College Open Textbook Template. Together, these two resources take the guesswork out of textbook creation.
How to Use This Guide
While cloning, editing, revising and remixing the Template into your very own textbook, you may encounter issues that require troubleshooting. This guide offers further assistance with the complexities Pressbooks and OER creation not included in the template. You can either read this guide in its entirety or use it as a quick reference. The Guide is divided into 3 parts:
Part 1. Using Your CC Open Template
This part offers guidance on technical aspects of the Pressbooks platform that are crucial to the template. This includes:
- Importing custom styling using CSS
- Branded aspects of the template
- How to add components to and remove components from the template
Part 2. Writing Your OER Using the CC Open Template
The second part of the Guide focusses on common issues creators face when creating Open Educational Resources in and beyond Pressbooks. This part specifically focuses on:
- Attribution
- Characteristics
- Creation
- Application
- Multimedia assets
Part 3. More Help with Your CC Open Template
The Guide is not an exhaustive resource; rather, as a reference, it acts as a starting point when troubleshooting. The first two parts deal with larger, important aspects of the textbook – visual cohesion and a critical aspect of copyright; meanwhile, Part 3 is populated by the Annotated Resource Guide. This curated list features best practices, walkthroughs, tutorials, and tools collected from a variety of sources that we found helpful to the OER creation process. This chapter includes links to these resources along with brief descriptions summarizing the content. Topics covered include:
- Accessibility
- Artificial Intelligence
- Attribution
- H5P
- HTML
- Images
- Licensing
- Media/Video
- Pressbooks
- Tables
