Standards

Colleges and universities are committed to accessibility for their learners and staff. They also have legal requirements to around accessibility in websites, learning materials, and in purchasing under the Accessibility for Ontarians with Disabilities Act and the Ontario Human Rights Code. Digital accessibility standards help to guide the development of accessible websites and technology and are all based on similar key principles. WCAG, a global standard of website accessibility, is the most common standard. In addition, the United States and European Union have developed accessibility standards that are useful for Canadians to rely on. The Ontario requirements may be changing after the recommendations of two Standards Development Committees and to keep pace with other international standards.
