Sina Sultani, a pioneering Afghan-Canadian science fiction filmmaker, has contributed as a writer, director, producer, cinematographer, and editor in numerous short film projects.

With more than five years of experience, he has proven his versatility in roles and won significant grants for original screenplays. Furthermore, he has experience with feature film production, having worked as a Production Coordinator on movies such as Sully (2016), xXx: Return of Xander Cage (2017), and A Wrinkle in Time (2018), where he gained exposure and insightful knowledge of the industry.1,2​ 

Following a few years of working in the field and earning a master’s degree in plant sciences, Sina took the risk of forsaking his academic background to follow his lifelong passion of screenwriting. He focused on making science fiction short films in order to hone his production and writing skills, despite his early difficulties with high-budget screenplays. ​2​ 

 

A versatile professional with experience in writing, directing, and producing, Sina Sultani has received recognition for his work at esteemed events like the Reykjavik International Film Festival, which qualifies for the CSA, and the Oscar-qualifying LA Shorts Fest. He has participated in prestigious initiatives such as Sameer Gardezi’s Break The Room and the Whistler Producers Lab. Remarkably, the Reelworld Screen Institute for Telefilm’s Talent to Watch program nominated his feature film, Guardian. His background as a Production Manager on big-budget movies such as Guardians of the Galaxy: Volume III and Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse demonstrates his ability to manage a wide range of projects.1,3​ 

 

With multiple Official Selections at domestic and international film festivals, Sina has become well-known for his noteworthy short films, which include “The Craftsman” (2016), “The Imaginist” (2015), “Refuge” (pending 2019), and “Iris” (2014). In addition, he worked as a Production Coordinator on big Hollywood films like “A Wrinkle in Time” (2018) and “Aquaman” (2018), demonstrating his broad and impressive experience in the field.4​

His influence on the industry is demonstrated by his work on films such as Terminator: Dark Fate, Space Jam: A New Legacy, and the upcoming Spider-Verse sequel. He is currently working on his first animated short while also creating his first live-action science fiction film. ​5​
