34 Facilitation Methods Using Multi-Media Material
Using different types of media in the seminar can help support communication and presentation of the course material in a more effective way. A variety of sources can incorporate relevant media material into the discussion.
The material that is presented can be decided on by the facilitator, a group of students, or the class as a whole and could include
- television programs,
- songs/lyrics,
- video/audio tapes or multi-media presentations,
- pictures/posters,
- slides/films,
- 3D models/demonstrations,
- board displays/flipchart paper.
The class reviews the material in the form of a presentation by student(s) or by the facilitator and discussion or another method of seminar facilitation should follow.
Demonstrations
Demonstrations are a visual way of presenting information to a group; often supplements a written presentation or a lecture. This can be used when a topic or idea will have a more direct impact if presented visually.
Method: the facilitator either prepares a demonstration or invites a guest to do so. Can be followed by discussion if desired and if time allows.
Remember, the facilitator should always pre-screen the material and ensure that the classroom has the necessary equipment to present the material.**
