Program Learning Resources and Facilities

Labs

In light of the current context of COVID-19 impacting Ontario, Centennial College will, for the most part, continue to teach at a distance and online. It is hoped, however, that courses with significant hands-on activity and requiring in-house instruction will be scheduled on our campuses in strict accordance with Public Health protocols.

Standard navy-blue Bridging to University Nursing program uniforms are required for all clinical placements Complete uniforms must be worn upon entering in patient clinical units. A white knee length lab coat, and nonskid shoes that are flat, closed at the heel and toe (no clogs or crocs). Uniforms are to be brought to the hospital and changed into and out of in appropriate designated areas (locker rooms/washrooms). If a uniform is not worn to clinical you may be required to leave.

For community and mental health placements where a uniform is not required, the dress code is casual professional. This includes no logos, no tee-shirts, no jeans and no revealing of abdomen.

Uniforms may be purchased at Red Cotton Uniforms, which is located at 445 Midwest Rd., Unit 24, Scarborough, Ontario. M1P 4Y9.  Telephone (416) 755-6155.

A wedding band is permitted; however, some organizations do not allow jewelry to be worn on patient care units. Fingernails must be kept short, clean and free of polish.

Acrylic and/or gel nails are not permitted in hospital or laboratory settings. Good grooming and personal hygiene must be maintained; this includes regular bathing, using antiperspirants and good oral hygiene

No perfumes, aftershave and other scented products as many people have allergies and sensitivities to these products. Most healthcare organizations have a “no scent policy.”

Software

Students have access to industry-leading software packages and bundles that can be found in rooms, labs, and podiums across our campuses. Computers at each campus will be loaded with the applications for use in your courses. To access these features, you must log in to the network using your student number. You can see a comprehensive list of software and software packages installed by room and by campus here.

Bring IT

Your program is integrated into our BringIT Programs within the School of Community and Health Studies. The Bring IT initiative integrates mobile devices and web-based technologies in the classroom to transform teaching and learning. Throughout your program, device use will be implemented in the delivery of your courses. This means that you will be required to own and use a mobile computing device that meets or exceeds the recommended hardware requirements. Please review the computing requirements on the BringIT website below. The website also includes FAQ’s related to BringIT which will answer any questions you may have.
