Assignment 3: Biological Impedance Analysis
The purpose of this lab is for students to develop skills for taking Biological Impedance Analysis (BIA) measurements to determine body composition.
Techniques & Guidelines
- For the most accurate BIA results, ensure that your client follows the following guidelines:

- No eating or drinking within 4 hours of the test
- No exercise within 12 hours of the test
- No alcohol or caffeine consumption within 24 hours of the test
- If your client is are pregnant or have a pacemaker they are NOT to complete the BIA assessments
- Wipe off all scales and massage tables before and after each use
- Clients remove all metal jewelry before conducting these assessments
- When using the RJL system or BodyStat, electrodes are placed on the hand and foot on the right side of the client’s body
- BIA leads do not to cross the body – otherwise electrical interference could corrupt results
