InBody Composition Analysis
Protocol for the Body Composite Testing
To ensure accurate results, please attempt to maintain similar testing conditions. For the body composition test it is important that you adhere to the following conditions:
- Ideally perform the body composite test first thing in the morning or refrain from eating or drinking 3 to 4 hours before testing.
- You must NOT have eaten any breakfast (so bring your breakfast with you to eat after doing the BC test). You may however drink water, milk, juice, plain soup, decaffeinated tea/coffee/soda (a cup).
- You must NOT have consumed caffeinated or alcoholic beverages in the previous 24 hours.
- You must NOT have done any excessive physical activity in the 24 hours before – so make the day before a lightly active day or a recovery day from training.
- Do not exercise, take a hot shower, or use a sauna right before testing.
- Stand still for approximately 5 minutes before testing.
- Refrain from taking diuretics such as caffeine, alcohol, and medications affecting body water before testing.
- Use the bathroom prior to testing.
- Wear light clothing for the test and remove all metals.
Please note:
- People with electric medical devices such as pacemaker or any metallic supports should NOT be tested.
- Women who are pregnant are not recommended to do the InBody test.
- Women who are menstruating are not recommended to do the InBody test.
Disinfecting The InBody Machine
- Use 60% alcohol wipes to disinfect the InBody while paying special attention to the hand electrodes, footplate, screen and any other parts of the device that are frequently touched.
Do not spray or pour liquids directly on the InBody device or immerse any part of the InBody device in liquid.
How to Use the InBody 570
InBody Definitions:
Dry lean mass:
- is the DRY mass of lean body mass (bones, muscles, organs, blood – without water); essentially just the proteins and minerals
Lean body mass:
- is the mass of bones, muscle, organs, blood INCLUDING all the water contained within them
Skeletal muscle mass:*
- is the mass of the muscle attached to the skeleton INCLUDING the water contained within (it does not include the cardiac and visceral muscle mass)
Segmental lean analysis: **
- is the lean body mass of each arm, leg and the trunk
Water analysis:
- Between 50% to 60% of body weight is water weight
- Overweight individual could be closer to 40-50%
- Obese individual could be closer to 40% or less
- Muscular individual could be > 60% for men and women
Healthful Body Fat Percentage:
- women with 18-28% body fat and men with 10-20% body fat
