RJL System
RJL
- The client should remove their right shoe and sock
- The client lays supine with their arms 30° from their body and legs not touching
- The electrode sites may be cleaned with alcohol, particularly if the skin is dry or covered with lotion
- When using the RJL system, the red led is always on top
- Attach the electrodes and cables as shown in the illustration (see below)
- Record resistance and reactance
NOTE: Resistance and Reactance will always fluctuate since fluid exchange is happening at all times within the body. Wait for the number to stabilize then record your resistance and reactance.

- Take those numbers and input them onto the computer in the counselling rooms for full client results
- You will need to make a profile for your client using the RJL computer software using the instructions provided below:
RJL – Body Composition Software Instructions
Step 1: Open the Software “RJL Systems BC3” using the desktop shortcut
Step 2: Add Client Information
- First Name / Last Name
- Click “Select Person”
Step 3: Add New Person
Click “OK”
Step 4: Add Gender and Frame Size
- Use drop-down menu to select Gender
- Use drop-down menu to select Frame Size. Frame size was calculated using skeletal breadth measurements during your anthropometrical measurements
- Click “OK”
Step 5: Enter only the Client Data listed below
- Height
- Weight
- Age
- Activity Level
- Skip Target Weight
- Resistance
- Reactance
Once All client information is added:
- Click “Save Test”
- Target Weight will now be generated by the computer
- Click “Go to Results”
Step 6: Record Results
Using the calculated results for this client record the results displayed on your screen on your lab worksheet.
