23 Using the Chat Tool

The Chat tool offers a synchronous communication channel, allowing both instructors and learners to engage in real-time discussions. This feature facilitates instant dialogue, collaboration, and connection, mirroring the lively, spontaneous exchanges of a traditional classroom.

Effective use of the Chat tool can make your course more interactive and engaging, fostering a stimulating learning environment where students feel connected and involved. In the following sections, we’ll guide you through the specifics of using this tool to enhance communication and collaboration in your online course.

Creating a General Chat

  1. Select Communication in the navbar, and then Chat
  2. On the Chat List page, select New Chat
  3. Enter a Title
  4. Select General Chat
  5. Enter a description of the chat (optional)
  6. Select Create

Using a General Chat

  1. Select Communication in the navbar, and then Chat
  2. On the Chat List page, select the chat title to enter
  3. Type messages in the text box and select Send
  4. Select Exit Chat when done

Viewing the Chat History

  1. Select Communication in the navbar, and then Chat
  2. Select the down-arrow (actions button) attached to the chat title
  3. Select the View Sessions option from the actions list
  4. Select the desired Start Date from the Chat Sessions list
  5. Select Done to quit viewing a chat session
  6. Select Done again to return to the Chat List
