Before Your Course Begins

12 Previewing Quizzes

Previewing quizzes before the start of a course serves several crucial purposes:

  1. Accuracy of Content: By previewing quizzes, instructors can ensure that the quiz questions and answers are accurate and align with the course content. This can help prevent any misunderstandings or confusion during the actual quiz.
  2. Technical Functionality: It allows instructors to check the technical aspects of the quiz, such as whether all questions and answer choices are displaying correctly if any multimedia content like images or videos are loading properly, and if the quiz submission process works smoothly.
  3. Difficulty Level and Coverage: Previewing quizzes can also help instructors assess if the questions are of an appropriate difficulty level and if they cover the course material evenly and comprehensively.
  4. Instructions and Feedback: Instructors can check if the instructions for each question are clear and that the automatic feedback provided after each question or at the end of the quiz is accurate and helpful.
  5. Accessibility: It’s crucial to ensure that quizzes are accessible to all students, including those using assistive technologies. Previewing allows instructors to check accessibility and make any necessary adjustments.

By taking the time to preview quizzes, instructors can identify and rectify any potential issues, thus ensuring a smoother, more effective assessment experience for students. This proactive step can also reduce the likelihood of receiving student queries or complaints about the quizzes once the course is underway.

  4. Select the Start Quiz button on the bottom left
  5. On the confirmation pop-up window, click OK
  6. Review the questions and answer options as you complete the quiz (Please note: you can choose answers at random as this is only a preview)

  8. When you are done, click Save All Responses and then Go to Submit Quiz
  9. At the bottom of the quiz submission confirmation page, click Submit Quiz
  10. On the confirmation pop-up window, click Yes, submit quiz

  12. If your quiz has multiple submission views…
    • Toggle between them using the Submission View dropdown menu (Please note: this menu automatically displays “Default View,” but the submission view shown below is not the default. This is a bug in Avenue to Learn. To view the default submission view, select a different option and then re-select “Default View”)
    • Review the release date of each submission view and their functionalities. These dates may need to be edited depending on the needs of the course. Please see separate instructions on updating quiz availability dates.
  13. If the submission view displays which answer options are correct for each question, make sure you check that these answers are truly correct
  14. If the submission view does not display the correct answers, you can preview questions individually by following the instructions below
  15. Click on Exit Preview when you are done
