Program Vocational Learning Outcomes
Program vocational learning outcomes describe what graduates of the program have demonstrated they can do with the knowledge and skills they have achieved during their studies. The outcomes are closely tied to the needs of the workplace. Through assessment (e.g., assignments and tests), students verify their ability to reliably perform these outcomes before graduating.

Technician
1. Communicate with clients, contractors, other building professionals, and approval authorities.
2. Assist in the preparation, reading, and interpretation of drawings, and other graphical representations used in building projects.
3. Read and assist in the preparation of specifications and other project documents used in design and construction.
4. Assist in the preparation of estimates of time, costs, and quantity.
5. Assist in solving technical problems related to building projects through the application of principles of building science and mathematics.
6. Collaborate with members of the building team.
7. Assist in the development of architectural designs.
8. Review and assist in the preparation of site planning documents.
9. Comply with the legal and ethical requirements of an architectural technician in the practice of building design and construction.

Technologist
1. Communicate with clients, contractors, other building professionals, and approval authorities.
2. Prepare, read, interpret, and revise drawings, and other graphical representations used in building projects.
3. Obtain, analyze, prepare, and revise specifications and other project documents used in design and construction.
4. Prepare estimates of time, costs, and quantity, and participate in the tendering process.
5. Solve technical problems related to building projects through the application of principles of building science and mathematics.
6. Collaborate with and coordinate information from structural, mechanical, and electrical building systems professionals.
7. Contribute to the design of architectural projects.
8. Contribute to the analysis, planning, and preparation of site planning documents.
9. Comply with the legal and ethical requirements of an architectural technologist in the practice of building design and construction.
10. Assess buildings and their interiors, and make recommendations for their repurposing and renovation.
11. Ensure personal safety and contribute to the safety of others in the workplace.
12. Participate in sustainable design and building practices.

Global Citizenship and Equity Learning Outcomes
There are six Global Citizenship and Equity (GCE) learning outcomes integrated into Diploma and Advanced Diploma programs as a component of Centennial’s Signature Learning Experience (SLE). The SLE reflects the College’s promise to provide students with a distinctive and inclusive educational experience that builds on a foundation of global citizenship, equity, and social justice. Certificate and Graduate Certificates also include at least two GCE learning outcomes. The GCE learning outcomes are:
- Identify one’s role and responsibilities as a global citizen in personal and professional life.
- Identify beliefs, values and behaviours that form individual and community identities and the basis for respectful relationships.
- Analyze issues of equity at the personal, professional, and global level.
- Analyze the use of the world’s resources to achieve sustainability and equitable distribution at the personal, professional, and global level.
- Identify and challenge unjust practices in local and global systems.
- Support personal and social responsibility initiatives at the local, national, and global level.
Global Citizenship and Equity Portfolio
As a component of the SLE, Diploma and Advanced Diploma program students will complete the Global Citizenship and Equity (GCE) Portfolio. Building the GCE Portfolio is a process of documenting your GCE learning. Each item selected for inclusion in the portfolio demonstrates growth and understanding of Global Citizenship and Equity within your program of study.
Students are encouraged to develop their GCE Portfolio beginning in their first semester. You will add artifacts from coursework and accompanying reflections as well as artifacts arising from co-curricular activities, volunteering, etc. to your portfolio as you progress through the program. You are encouraged to use the ePortfolio tools available on eCentennial, as well as to develop an online professional portfolio presence through LinkedIn and/or other personal websites/blogs.
Curriculum Frameworks
Centennial College’s Architectural Technology program will prepare you for a variety of careers in the building industry. Among the various options will be working in an architectural firm where you’ll apply your technical knowledge and skills to create building designs, analyze building code requirements, prepare construction drawings and carry out contract administration tasks during the construction phase. Alternatively, where permitted by legislation, you may directly offer building design and drawing services to clients on small building projects.
This diploma program will emphasize energy-efficient, sustainable design and construction strategies as well as protecting the environment. Using state-of-the-art computer technology, you’ll learn to prepare designs and construction drawings for residential, industrial, commercial and institutional buildings. You’ll also become familiar with building materials, construction methods, structural design, mechanical and electrical services, building codes and zoning by-laws, contracts, specifications, and the business environment for providing design and construction services.

• All students are strongly encouraged to complete the full, three-year, Architectural Technology program. However, students who successfully complete the first two years of this program may apply to graduate from the two-year Architectural Technician program.
