Forensic Psychology

Forensic Psychologists study psychology in the context of the law. Work in this field can include exploring criminal behaviour, perceptions of criminals, behaviours of the judge and jury, and how these factors impact trials and outcomes for those interacting with the criminal justice system. Using knowledge of the legal system, Forensic Psychologists work on civil and criminal cases, carry out assessments to interview witnesses and defendants, conduct scholarship on best practices in legal situations, and contribute to policy and practice development. Individuals working in forensic psychology often collaborate with other members of the legal system and in addition to working in academia, may work in hospitals, prisons, or government agencies. They may also provide guidance and support for those involved in the criminal justice system, such as victims and their families, perpetrators, or inmates.
