Prior Learning Assessment and Recognition (PLAR)
Students with previous or current work or volunteer experience in the AMHW and social services sector may be eligible to have their experience evaluated through the PLAR (Prior Learning Assessment and Recognition) process for one of the AMHW Field Placement courses.
Important Notes:

Students cannot PLAR both Field Placement courses.

Students must complete at least one Centennial College Field Placement course to be eligible for graduation from the AMHW program.
Eligibility Requirements:

Students must have completed the minimum required Field Placement hours through their work or volunteer experience.

The PLAR evaluation process has a fee of approximately $175 (subject to change).
PLAR Application Process:
Once the application is submitted, students must provide a PLAR portfolio, which includes:

Job description and detailed responsibilities.

Letter from a supervisor confirming the timeline, total hours worked, and scope of practice.

A two-page reflection paper.

Completed evaluation forms from the supervisor and a self-evaluation from the student.
The PLAR Evaluator will:

Review the submitted portfolio.

Conduct an interview with the student and their supervisor.

Assess performance and competency against the Course Learning Outcomes.

Assign the final grade based on this assessment.
