Holidays (Statutory, College, & Religious) 📅

  • Statutory Holidays
Students do not attend Field Placement on statutory holidays that fall on placement days (e.g., Thanksgiving, Family Day, Good Friday). Hours may not be recorded for these days.

  • National Day for Truth and Reconciliation (TRC) 🪶

    • If your agency hosts an event, students attend the agency event.

    • If the agency does not host an event, students may attend an event of their choosing at Centennial College or in the community.

    • Students must provide proof of attendance (e.g., photo, video, or other validation) and submit a reflection.

    • Students who do not attend or provide evidence must make up 8 hours.

    • Check the College Events Calendar 📌 for all official events.

  • Religious Holidays ✡️☪️✝️🕉️

    • Students observing recognized religious holidays may take the day off if it falls on placement days.

    • The Ontario Human Rights Code specifies which religious holidays are legally recognized (www.ohrc.on.ca).

    • Students must notify both CFS and AFS at least 2 weeks in advance for accommodations.

    • If the one personal day has already been used, missed hours must be made up.

Engagement / Reading Week 📖

  • Students do not attend Field Placement during Reading / Engagement Week unless they are behind hours and need to make them up.

  • Students cannot use this week to “fast-track” hours if they are already on track.

  • All plans to make up hours during this week must be communicated and approved by the CFS and AFS.
