Daily Attendance Expectations
-
Be punctual and reliable. Students are expected to meet all Field Placement attendance requirements.
-
Placement hours. Attend placement for the hours agreed upon with your Agency Field Supervisor (AFS), typically during regular agency business hours. An eight (8) hour workday is required in order to complete Field Placement hours within 14 weeks.
-
Plan ahead. Check your travel routes in advance and allow extra time for potential delays such as traffic, transit issues, road closures, or severe weather. Consistent punctuality demonstrates professionalism and respect for both the agency and the community members you serve.
-
Tracking hours. Record all Field Placement hours in the Time Log (Appendix D – AMHW-310 & AMHW-410) and submit them to your College Field Supervisor (CFS) as requested. See Appendix D for detailed instructions.
-
Scheduling guidance. Refer to the Required Field Placement Hours chapter for more detailed information.
Breaks During Field Placement
Students are entitled to the following breaks each day (included in your placement hours):
-
One lunch break (30 minutes to 1 hour, depending on agency policy)
-
Two 15-minute breaks
Important reminders:
-
Break and lunch schedules vary by agency. Students should clarify specific policies with their AFS on the first day of placement.
-
Breaks must be scheduled responsibly to ensure they do not interfere with community member care or agency operations.
-
Always follow the agency’s routines and expectations regarding timing and duration of breaks.
Self-Care Reminder:
Taking breaks is an important part of maintaining your well-being and professional performance. Use this time intentionally—whether to eat, stretch, go for a walk, or simply rest. Regular, mindful breaks help you stay focused, energized, and effective throughout your placement.
