Land Acknowledgement & Commitment to Reconciliation❤️🖤💛

Centennial College proudly acknowledges that it is located on the treaty lands of the Mississaugas of the Credit First Nation. We recognize the deep and enduring presence of Indigenous peoples in this region and the important role they play in the history and future of this land.

Toronto is a traditional gathering place for many Indigenous peoples from across Turtle Island, and we honour this as part of our shared heritage. At Centennial, we understand that all members of our college community are treaty people, and we are committed to respecting and strengthening our relationships with Indigenous communities.

Many of our Field Placements take place beyond Toronto, in regions such as Peel, Durham, and York. These lands are the traditional territories of the Mississaugas of the Credit First Nation, the broader Anishinaabe peoples, the Haudenosaunee Confederacy, and the Huron-Wendat Nation, among others. These regions continue to be home to diverse Indigenous communities today. As students, staff, and faculty engaging in placements across these regions, we encourage reflection on the histories, cultures, and ongoing contributions of Indigenous peoples in each community. By acknowledging these lands, we honour the past, respect the present, and commit to working in partnership with Indigenous communities in a manner that is culturally informed, respectful, and equitable.

Our Commitments

  • Honouring Treaty Lands: We acknowledge that our campuses and placement sites sit on the traditional and treaty lands of Indigenous peoples.
  • Respecting Traditional Territories: We recognize Toronto, Peel, Durham, and York as historic meeting places for Indigenous peoples from diverse nations.
  • Building Relationships: We embrace our responsibility to honour all relations and foster meaningful connections with Indigenous communities.
  • Truth and Reconciliation: Our land acknowledgement is part of a broader commitment to reconciliation, addressing the impacts of colonialism, and creating a more inclusive and equitable future.
  • Ongoing Action: Centennial actively works towards reconciliation through curriculum development, community engagement, and initiatives that amplify Indigenous voices and perspectives.

By acknowledging the past, honouring the present, and committing to a shared future, Centennial College invites all students, staff, and faculty to engage in learning, understanding, and building a community grounded in respect, equity, and reconciliation.
