Program Outcomes

CHC

The graduate, in accordance with the Canadian Health Care Program Standard, Ministry of Colleges and Universities (MCU) of Ontario, will be able to:

  • Communicate clearly, in both verbal and written form, utilizing accurate terminology and professional communication strategies.
  • Compare the duties, responsibilities, and professional / ethical obligations of various health care professionals in Ontario and analyse how these professionals interact within the greater health care system.
  • Demonstrate intercultural competence by developing and implementing effective strategies to apply in various cultural environments which address cultural differences.
  • Implement effective interpersonal skills in a professional setting to assist in the completion of individual and team tasks within defined timelines.
  • Utilize both health-related and non-health related information technology systems to locate and organize data effectively.
  • Research and develop strategies for ongoing professional training and certification in health care related professions.

CVT

  • Provide competent cardiovascular testing by applying comprehensive knowledge of cardiology and related disciplines.
  • Complete all work in accordance with legal and ethical requirements of the field, using accepted safety practices, and appropriate terminology specific to the occupation and the industry.
  • Provide quality patient care through all interactions with patients, their parents and families, co-workers, and the community.
  • Critically evaluate the patient’s cardiac status using the relevant test procedure and results.
  • Identify emergency equipment, cardiovascular drugs, their use and the role of each member of the cardiac diagnostic team during a cardiac emergency.
  • Operate sophisticated medical equipment to assist physicians in the diagnosis and treatment of cardiovascular disorders.
  • Prepare accurate test reports such as Electrocardiograms, Holter Scans and Exercise tests for the interpreting cardiologist.
  • Apply scientific principles in the operation and evaluation of laboratory equipment and implanted cardiac rhythm management devices and assist with obtaining measurements and monitoring of the patient’s hemodynamic parameters.
  • Assist the Cardiologist with invasive and therapeutic procedures utilizing aseptic, operating room and proper patient care techniques.

The Cardiovascular Technology program outcomes meet all the core competencies outlined in the Canadian Society of Cardiology Technologist’s National Occupational Competency Profile (CSCT NOCP).

  4. Develop and maintain therapeutic relationships to optimize clients’ health and wellness and to achieve treatment goals.
  5. Collect and document client information in an accurate and timely manner and securely maintain this information.
  6. Analyze client’s data to determine health status and develop a care plan for massage and related therapies according to the client’s condition and the treatment goals.
  7. Implement the care plan using massage and related therapies, and evaluate its effectiveness in meeting the client’s needs and treatment goals.
  8. Develop and implement ongoing effective strategies for personal, professional and business development to ensure quality care.

PHARM TECH

Pharmacy Technician graduates may be employed in community and hospital pharmacies. The graduate will be eligible to become a Registered Pharmacy Technician with the Ontario College of Pharmacists. In accordance with the NAPRA Model Standards of Practice for Pharmacy Technicians, graduates will be equipped to be involved with the dispensing and releasing of prescriptions and pharmaceuticals, inventory control, and perform selected clinical and clerical duties.

It is a goal of the program faculty and staff that the Pharmacy Technician program at Mohawk College complies with the following standards, outcomes, and competencies, and to maintain a positive accreditation award from the Canadian Council of Accreditation for Pharmacy Programs. The graduate, in accordance with the Pharmacy Technician Program Standard, Ministry of Colleges and Universities of Ontario (2023), has reliably demonstrated the ability to:

  • Process prescriptions with accuracy and completeness within the pharmacy technician’s scope of practice, in accordance with current and relevant legislation, code of ethics, established standards, policies, and procedures in practice settings.
  • Prepare pharmaceutical products and documentation for dispensing and releasing pharmaceutical products within the pharmacy technician’s scope of practice, in accordance with current and relevant legislation, code of ethics, established standards, policies, and procedures in practice settings.
  • Collaborate with the pharmacist and other health care providers to optimize the patient’s health and well-being.
  • Promote quality assurance in practice settings by performing effective and efficient pharmacy operating procedures.
  • Optimize medication therapy management and product distribution using current technologies in practice settings.
  • Develop, implement, and maintain effective strategies for ongoing personal and professional development that support competence and currency.
  • Communicate using correct terminology with patients, the pharmacy team, other health professionals and stakeholders for patient safety.

Graduates of the Mohawk College Pharmacy Technician Program are equipped to perform the Professional Competencies for Canadian Pharmacy Technicians at Entry to Practice, set out by the National Association of Pharmacy Regulatory Authorities (2014):
